The Buchanan

San Francisco, California

THE BUCHANAN PAYS HOMAGE TO LOCAL ICONOGRAPHY WITH AN INTERIORS PROGRAM THAT CELEBRATES STREET LIFE, URBAN CULTURE AND ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT. SITTING AT THE VIBRANT CROSSROADS OF THE CITY’S JAPANTOWN AND FILLMORE NEIGHBORHOODS, THE BUCHANAN COMPRISES 131 GUESTROOMS, A COURTYARD, LOBBY AND COMMON AREAS.

THE SULTRY MATERIALS PALETTE INCLUDES AN ELEGANT MASHUP OF ARTISANAL AND TRADITIONAL INFLUENCES SUCH AS THE CHARRED WOOD OF JAPANESE WHISKY BARRELS, THE IMPERFECT BLUE OF HAND-DYED INDIGO TEXTILES, THE GLIMMER OF WHISKY GLASSES AND THE RAW, EARTHINESS OF HANDMADE ASIAN POTTERY. A NOTE OF MOODY GLAMOUR IS REFLECTED IN AN UNDULATING LIGHT SCULPTURE INSPIRED BY JAPANESE WHISKY BOTTLES. ORIGINAL ARTWORKS AND FURNISHINGS BY NORTHERN CALIFORNIA-BASED ARTISTS AND CRAFTSMEN EMPHASIZE THE SENSE OF PLACE.
