Private Residence, Pacific Heights, San Francisco, CA / Square footage 2,000 / 2009
To redefine this classic Pacific Heights two story as a luxurious, minimalist oasis, NICOLEHOLLIS reconfigured the layout, moving the master bedroom and bath downstairs to overlook the garden and opening the upper floor for entertaining. Working with a strict palette of black and white with a hint of gray, the guiding principle was “if it doesn’t serve a purpose leave it out.” Aging bamboo floors were replaced with 8-inch wide French white-oak planks that were bleached and stained a unifying gray. The white interior walls reflect the abundance of light and showcase the dramatic black wing chairs, classic wood furniture, black light fixtures, gray upholstery and black and white rugs. Natural woven textiles and leather, modern appliances and Asian antiques create a harmonious balance and reflect the owner’s urban sensibility and childhood abroad.
